"All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." This is part of the XIV Amendment to our constitution.
This Amendment was passed to insure that freed slaves would be considered citizens of the United States. This was the right thing to do in July of 1868. In recent years this Amendment has made illegal aliens citizens if they are born here. This has resulted in what are called "anchor babies", babies born here even though their parents are illegal.
It is time to revisit this Amendment and consider revoking it. It has served it's purpose and is now being used for a purpose other than intended. The original purpose, to grant citizenship to freed slaves was good, but now it is working against the citizens of this country.
We should continue to welcome legal immigrants to this country, but they must come legally through the system.
